  • Paper bags
  • A large bucket for mixing
  • A gallon of water-based floor polyurethane
  • A gallon of Elmer’s glue
  • Concrete to patch holes from carpet tacks
  • A mop to apply the polyurethane
  • A stir stick
  • A putty knife
  • Plastic gloves

Step One

First is empty the room and remove all of the trim along the walls. Next, you must patch any holes and sand the concrete floors. Leave the room from any activity so that the sealer layer can dry perfectly. It is better if you keep it closed off for 12 hours or more.

Step Two

Clean the floor thoroughly. You are now ready to mix the Elmer’s glue and water using a stir stick. The ratio is 1:1. Do not mix the entire batch at once because it will quickly dry if not directly used. Then, use a putty knife to flatten the mixing glue on the floor surfaces. Lay the piece of paper down on the floor one by one. Make sure to smooth the air bubbles trapped there. Continue to lay down the papers each one slightly overlapping the others.

Step Three

Continue the process until the whole floor is completely covered. Be careful to not step on the floor that has been covered by paper bags.

Step Four

Let the floor completely dry. This may take 12 hours or more depending on what climate you live in. If you want a darker color, you can stain this with wood stain using a soft rag. This may take 24 hours to dry.
